This was the question that was posed to the audience at Oakland Women’s Film Festival. It was part of the remarks by Matt Keck to introduce the film The Illusionists, a documentary about negative body image, consumerism and globalization. It seemed as though the audience was caught off guard by this question, because as Matt pointed out to them, it’s a question they probably don’t stop and ask themselves,
"Imagination is absolutely critical to the quality of our lives… Imagination gives us the opportunity to envision new possibilities—it is an essential launchpad for making our hopes come true. It fires our creativity, relieves our bore-dom, alleviates our pain, enhances our pleasure, and enriches our most intimate relationships." ― Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
